Dr Joanna Phillips, Clinical Psychologist

Dr Joanna Phillips is a Clinical Psychologist who specialises in working with young people, parents and schools. Joanna has a specialist interest in Eye Movement Densensitisation Reprocoessing (EMDR), having been trained in the use of this therapy with both adults and children. Before becoming a Clinical Psychologist Joanna worked as an A-Level Psychology teacher, and as a Research Associate at the Institute of Psychiatry.
In her clinical work Joanna has experience of supporting people with a range of difficulties including anxiety problems, low mood, post traumatic stress, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), low self-esteem, behavioural problems, parenting worries, school related worries and difficulties associated with ongoing physical health problems (e.g, chronic pain). Joanna is experienced at working alongside parents/carers, school teachers, and professionals to provide the best outcome for the young person. Joanna also has experience of providing a variety of training based workshops for employees.
In addition to her work with Bluebird Psychology, Joanna has previous experience of working as a Clinical Psychologist in a NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) and within an NHS Paediatric Child Development team. Joanna is a visiting lecturer on the PsychD programme at the University of Surrey, Guildford.
Joanna has a friendly and creative approach, and draws upon a variety of different therapeutic approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Eye movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), and is an Accredited Practitioner in EMDR.
